
Jay's Past Adventures
From the US Embassy in Somalia to Retired Life!
Jay is a former Aerial Gunner Instructor with the United States Marine Corps from December 1987 to December 1993. He maintained and flew on the CH-53E helicopter. The most notable event was the Night Mission to Mogadishu, Somalia, January 5-6, 1991, to evacuate the US Embassy being taken over by armed African Rebel Forces. Jay is a veteran of the Gulf War – Desert Storm & Desert Shield.
After his enlistment with the United States Marine Corps, he was hired by the Winston-Salem Police Department in North Carolina, January 1994. He achieved the rank of lieutenant and served his final years as a field commander in the north district. Jay retired in March 2024 after 30 years of service.
Jay also has a passion for photography and operated his own business with a portrait studio in Kernersville, NC, from 2005 until closing in 2012. His focus was on family and wedding photography. Jay still has a passion for photography and considers himself an experienced hobbyist now. Jay obtained his Part 107 commercial drone license and plans to integrate drone photography into his adventures.
Jay now spends his retired life with his family, woodworking, fishing, and riding motorcycle(s) - 2022 BMW 1250 RT & 2023 BMW GS Adventure.
