A few of us headed out on our usual backroads discovery ride, winding through the countryside on our motorcycles until we made a stop at Priddy’s General Store.

Established in 1888, Priddy’s is a true piece of North Carolina history. The store is still owned and operated by Jane Priddy Charleville, a third-generation steward of this family-run gem. Tucked away near Danbury and just a short ride from Hanging Rock State Park, it’s the kind of place you don’t stumble upon—you seek it out.

Inside, we found a little bit of everything: clothes, jeans, and shirts alongside fresh vegetables, old-school candy, glass bottle sodas, pottery, and handcrafted goods from local artisans. It’s the kind of store where every shelf tells a story.

In October, the place really comes alive with “Picking at Priddy’s,” a Saturday tradition that brings in locals for live, old-time music and good company.

We grabbed a seat inside, swapped stories with some of the regulars, and ordered the bologna sandwich everyone talks about. Jane didn’t disappoint—thick-sliced bologna topped with tomatoes, onion, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Simple, classic, and downright satisfying. We paired it with chips and an ice-cold glass bottle soda, then finished things off with a choice of homemade apple pie or a Southern favorite: Moon Pies.

If you find yourself riding through the area, Priddy’s General Store is well worth the stop. It’s more than just a place to grab a bite—it’s a step back in time.
